I am working to improve how the county serves our community. Before I was elected to the Grand Traverse County Commission in November 2022, I served on city and county committees working on issues related to natural resources, including stormwater, soil erosion, and tree canopy protection. I also helped lead several local campaigns to improve governmental transparency and accountability to voters related to roads and elected officials.

Since serving as county commissioner for District 7, I have been an active, prepared, and collaborative member of the board. I work across the aisle to ensure prudent spending and fair processes. I am a member of the Michigan Association of Counties (MAC) Environmental and Agriculture Committees. I also serve as the County Commission liaison to the County Pavilions DHHS Board and on several ad hoc committees related to policies, roads, citizen board applicants, and others.

I am married to Traverse City native Mike Grant and am the proud mother of a ninth grader at TC Central High and a seventh grader at East Middle. Go Trojans! In my free time, I practice yoga and I love to swim, particularly in open water - even in winter!

I am an attorney with over 20 years experience protecting natural resources and addressing climate change. I represent local, statewide, and national environmental and land use non-profit organizations that advocate for water quality, environmental protection, clean energy, and residential quality of life.

I manage my own solo practice firm, and I am of counsel with Troposphere Legal. I previously served as a civilian JAG attorney in the U. S. Air Force in its environmental litigation group, an associate at public interest law firm Olson, Bzdok & Howard in Traverse City, and an Honors Attorney in the Environmental and Natural Resources Department of the Texas Office of the Attorney General.

I grew up surrounded by orchards and wild things on a citrus farm in southern Africa. Texas was my home through high school and college. In 2004, I found my way to Traverse City and am proud to consider this amazing place my forever home.
